Un empleado de un hotel dice a AP que el líder de la Revolución Cubana, Fidel Castro, ha hecho la primera aparición pública en meses. Fidel Castro, de 86 años de edad, apareció en el Hotel Nacional de La Habana acompañando a un huésped venezolano durante la tarde del sábado, 20 de octubre. Luego estuvo una media hora hablando con los empleados del hotel, según la directora comercial del establecimiento, Yamila Fuster. De momento no se han publicado fotos que confirmaran el hecho, pero la responsable del hotel señaló que pueden aparecer próximamente. Anteriormente varios medios publicaron los comentarios del médico venezolano José Rafael Marquina que sostenía haber tenido acceso a fuentes y datos de primera mano. Según esos comunicados, el ex gobernante cubano sufrió un derrame cerebral y su estado de salud es tan precario que tiene dificultades para alimentarse, hablar y reconocer a las personas. Los rumores provienen del mismo doctor que en el pasado aseguró tener información directa sobre la enfermedad del mandatario Hugo Chávez.
