Kevin Barrera tenía 14 años cuando fue encontrado golpeado y tiroteado en California en el año 2009. Sus asesinos nunca fueron hallados. Esta semana su padre encontró unas imágenes de satélite de Google donde aparece muerto al lado de un ferrocarril.
Las imágenes de Google Maps muestran el cuerpo del adolescente y a unos policías alrededor. Al ver las fotos, el padre decidió exigir a Google que elimine las fotos que le provocan malos recuerdos. Expresó la intención de iniciar un proceso legal contra el buscador si es necesario.
Contestando a la denuncia del señor Barrera, Google aseguró el lunes que reemplazará la imagen lo más pronto posible. Esto es una excepción ya que la compañía nunca ha agilizado sus acciones en casos de este tipo, pero lo hará esta vez dadas las circunstancias.
Brian McClendon, el vicepresidente de Google Maps, ya anunció que se quitará la polémica imagen en el transcurso de ocho días.
