“Estoy a bordo y listo para trabajar”, comentó Lichtman a la agencia de noticias Notimex. “Espero ansioso representar al señor Guzmán en el juicio y dar la pelea de su vida”, detalló el letrado, quien aseguró que afrontará este caso como todos los demás, “luchando sin dar cuartel”.
El equipo legal de ‘El Chapo’ ahora cuenta con tres abogados: Eduardo Balarezo, el abogado principal, William Púrpura y Jeffrey Lichtman. Este último es conocido por su talento por conseguir victorias mediante sus estrategias como abogado, incluso cuando un caso parece perdido. Por el momento se desconocen los honorarios de la nueva incorporación.
Guzmán Loera fue extraditado a Estados Unidos el año pasado, después de escapar por un túnel de una prisión de máxima seguridad en México y permanecer un año prófugo. Se enfrenta a 17 cargos por importar y traficar drogas en EE.UU. El próximo 5 de noviembre tendrá inicio su juicio.
