Santo Domingo. El 26 de noviembre es el “Día Nacional del Merengue”, que fue institucionalizado mediante decreto número 619-05, del 11 de noviembre de 2005, en honor a que 151 años atrás, en 1854, en esa misma fecha, apareció publicado por primera vez el vocablo “merengue” en el periódico “El Oasis”.

Según publicación en www.actividadesartisticas.com, el pasado año por iniciativa del periodista Fausto Polanco se realizaron diversas actividades en conmemoración del “Día Nacional del Merengue”, donde se unieron los principales exponentes del género, así como comunicadores que apoyaron esta causa, actividades que resultó ser muy exitosa, de la cual formé (Ramón Chávez) parte en su organización.
A raíz de las acciones del miércoles 26 de noviembre de 2013, los artistas y el señor Polanco se reunieron en varias ocasiones y planificaron algunos proyectos, que iban a favorecer tanto al ritmo como a sus exponentes, pero lamentablemente no se pudieron ejecutar por falta de coordinación y apoyo entre los merengueros.
Este año no va a pasar nada, porque según supe, Polanco, quien tuvo a cargo la coordinación de esta celebración el pasado año, no ha encontrado el apoyo de los merengueros, a pesar de que ha escrito varios artículos desde octubre, llamando al pueblo a celebrar.
Sin embargo, los propios protagonistas del género no le han prestado atención a estos llamados y nadie más se ha levantado para que hoy se celebre como el pasado año. Que lamentable.
En este tiempo se dice que el merengue esté en crisis, aunque los merengueros ya establecidos lo niegan y podrían tener razón, porque algunos ellos siempre tienen fiesta, aunque no se escuchen en la radio, pero lo lamentable es para los que van surgiendo, que tienen poca posibilidades de pegar un tema, lo que significa, que si para ellos hay crisis, lo que ocasiona que muchas orquestas nueva desaparezcan en poco tiempo y la que logran mantenerse un poquito pasan mucho trabajo.
Me pregunto, ¿qué están haciendo los merenguero establecidos para que en unos cuantos años cuando ellos no estén en el mercado artísticos puedan dejar sus sucesores y que el merengue siga siendo nuestro ritmo nacional?.
