El ataque parece haber sido perpetrado a través del servicio de administración de dominios MarkMonitor. Según la información WHOIS de Facebook MarkMonitor aparece como el registrador de su dominio.
De acuerdo con el grupo de ‘hackers’, la compañía cerró su portal en respuesta al presunto ataque. En su página web, MarkMonitor dice que ofrece soluciones de seguridad de alta calidad de un portal “reforzado” y para proteger los dominios de marcas.
El Ejército Electrónico Sirio afirmó que era capaz de cambiar los servidores de Facebook, pero el proceso tuvo que ser abandonado porque estaba “tomando demasiado tiempo”.
Por su parte, Facebook y MarkMonitor, han anunciado que “han subsanado el error”, evitando cualquier impacto “serio”.
