Nace en Italia MafiaLeaks, un sitio web que tiene como objetivo poner fin a la inseguridad que sienten quienes pretenden denunciar a organizaciones mafiosas en ese país.
Esta plataforma digital fue creada por un grupo anónimo de expertos en informática que afirman que son capaces de emplear sus habilidades técnicas para luchar contra la mafia. Uno de ellos, identificado como Bobby, habló con el diario británico 'The Independent' sobre este proyecto inspirado en WikiLeaks.
La estrategia principal de MafiaLeaks, explicó el activista, es destruir lo que ha protegido a la mafia durante décadas, el denominado 'omerta' o 'ley del silencio'.
El portal permite a testigos y víctimas de la mafia, como comerciantes o empresarios, informar al sitio web, sólo visible mediante el navegador Tor, sobre el crimen organizado.
Según Bobby, MafiaLeaks ya ha recibido datos y pruebas respecto a algunos mafiosos y ha contactado con investigadores y periodistas que llevarán a cabo un seguimiento de sus prácticas.
"Queremos que los mafiosos se den cuenta de que, en un momento dado, incluso ahora mismo, alguien está al tanto de sus actividades y que tarde o temprano esta información saldrá a la luz", afirmó.
La creación de este sitio web, en el que se estima que trabajan menos de diez personas, ha recibido halagos, pero también críticas.
"MafiaLeaks puede ser un buen modo de difundir cierto tipo de información, derribando el muro que mantiene en secreto toda la actividad en la que se involucra la mafia", dijo la magistrada Nicola Gratteri al diario ‘La Repubblica’. Sin embargo, también indicó que los autores de la iniciativa han de tener mucho cuidado, porque podría despertar "deseos de venganza" por parte del crimen organizado.
"Necesitamos que los medios de comunicación ayuden a que la gente se dé cuenta de que hay un nuevo método para combatir a la mafia que no pone en riesgo la vida de quienes dan el chivatazo", anunció Bobby.
