La compañía estadounidense Spike Aerospace está construyendo un avión comercial supersónico sin ventanas. En su lugar colocarán pantallas planas de video que reproduzcan lo que filman cámaras ubicadas en el exterior de la aeronave.
“Las paredes interiores del avión se cubrirán con finas pantallas y las cámaras que rodean toda la aeronave construirán unas impresionantes vistas panorámicas que se mostrarán en las pantallas de la cabina. Los pasajeros podrán apagar los monitores para dormir un poco o cambiarlos por otras imágenes almacenadas en el sistema”, señala Spike Aerospace en su página web.
Además, según la compañía, “desde hace mucho las ventanas implican un desafío significativo en el diseño y construcción del fuselaje de una aeronave, porque requieren estructuras de soporte adicionales, obligan a agregar más partes al avión y aumentan el peso de la aeronave”.
Este avión, conocido como Spike S-512, podrá volar a una velocidad de 1.920 kilómetros por hora, lo que permitiría cubrir la ruta Londres-Nueva York en entre tres y cuatro horas en lugar de las ocho actuales, según estiman los ingenieros de este proyecto.
Como contrapartida, este avión supersónico tendrá una capacidad para muy pocos pasajeros: entre 12 y 16. Se espera que esté listo antes de 2018
