El mapa que usamos nos muestra que África y Groenlandia son casi del mismo tamaño, aunque en la realidad la primera es catorce veces más grande que la segunda. ¿Qué otros errores contiene nuestro atlas?
La imagen del mundo que propone el mapa que actualmente usamos es completamente errónea, ya que las proporciones de los continentes no se corresponden a la realidad, revela el portal BuzzFeed.
Dicho atlas fue creado por el cartógrafo Gerardus Mercator en el siglo XVI para la navegación y es fiel a las coordenadas geográficas. Sin embargo, representa una visión desproporcionada del tamaño de los continentes.
De este modo, según el mapa que usamos, África es casi del mismo tamaño que Groenlandia, aunque la primera es unas 14 veces mayor en superficie que la segunda (30.221.532 kilómetros cuadrados contra 2.166.086). Lo mismo ocurre con el Reino Unido que ocupa 243.610 kilómetros cuadrados y Madagascar (587.041) que están reflejados en el atlas como si tuvieran el mismo tamaño.
