Un periodista de Los Ángeles ha demostrado que los estadounidenses pueden construir con facilidad de manera clandestina rifles Kaláshnikov, usando piezas que se compran a través de internet. Bryan Schatz consiguió entrar en una reunión privada -‘gun party’- organizada en el garaje de un vecindario de Los Ángeles, a la que asistía un grupo heterogéneo de 12 personas, ancianos y jóvenes, y de la que salieron varios rifles AK-47 no registrados.
En la lección improvisada el periodista aprendió que lo más complicado del proceso era conseguir la estructura sobre la cual deben ser encajadas diez piezas importadas del extranjero. Lo importante es saber qué piezas se necesitan exactamente y dónde se pueden conseguir.
“Puedes tirarlo al suelo, aplastarlo con un coche, tirar de las piezas y después seguir disparando. Por eso son tan populares”, cita Schatz a uno de los participantes de la reunión.
Para elaborar su reportaje, Bryan Schatz grabó un video en el cual él mismo muestra cómo construir su propio AK-47. El periodista habló con un portavoz del Departamento de la Policía de la zona, que le aseguró que esos hechos ya “no están ocurriendo aquí”.
En el mundo se han fabricado más de 100 millones de AK-47 y sus variantes desde su creación en la década de los cuarenta, según ‘The New York Times’.
