El código malicioso ha sido descubierto por la empresa de investigación de seguridad AVG. El programa hace creer al usuario que el aparato se ha apagado: se oscurece la pantalla y se simula la animación de desactivación aunque en realidad el dispositivo continúa funcionando.
AVG, que ha bautizado el programa como ‘PowerOffHijack’, asegura que puede infectar dispositivos que utilicen las versiones de Android anteriores a la 5.0. Hasta el momento unos 10.000 aparatos se han visto infectados por el código maligno, la mayoría de ellos en China, donde fueron repartidos mediante una tienda oficial local de Android.
AVG recomienda a los usuarios retirar la batería del aparato para asegurarnos de que el dispositivo se ha apagado de verdad.
