Los científicos rusos del Instituto de Problemas Médicos y Biológicos probaron mediante un experimento la hipótesis de panspermia, es decir, que la vida pudo llegar a nuestro planeta desde cualquier punto del Universo, informa la agencia ITAR-TASS.
El experimento se llevó a cabo en la nave espacial Bion-M 1, lanzada en la primavera de este año. La nave estuvo en la órbita 30 días, portando varios microorganismos en un equipo especial colocado en el exterior de la misma. Al entrar en las capas densas de la atmósfera terrestre, el aparato se calentó a varios miles de grados Celsius. Solamente una cepa soportó esas condiciones extraordinarias.
Según cuenta el director del proyecto, Vladímir Sychov, de todas especies el único organismo que sobrevivió al experimento fue la endospora bacteriana termófila, presente en ambientes libres de oxígeno.
La prueba se llevó a cabo en el marco del experimento denominado ‘Meteorito’. Los científicos planean repetirlo el año que viene usando la nave espacial Foton 4.
