“La Iglesia, que es madre y maestra, llama a todos sus miembros a renovarse y a renunciar al orgullo y al egoísmo y a vivir en el amor”, dijo el papa durante el rezo del Ángelus dominical, probablemente su penúltimo acto público antes de abandonar el trono del Vaticano.
“Agradezco de corazón a todos su oración y su afecto en estos días. Os suplico que continuéis rezando por mí y por el próximo papa así como por los ejercicios espirituales, que empezaré esta tarde junto a los miembros de la Curia Romana”, afirmó.
El Pontífice hizo votos para que en este tiempo de Cuaresma “la contemplación de la pasión, muerte y resurrección de Cristo nos ayude a seguirlo más de cerca”.
“Llenos de fe y esperanza, encomendemos la Iglesia a la maternal protección de María Santísima”, añadió
Según el Vaticano el cónclave para elegir al nuevo papa podría adelantarse para que, de esta forma, el papado arranque antes del inicio de la Semana Santa, el 24 de marzo.
Benedicto XVI anunció oficialmente este lunes que abandonaría voluntariamente su puesto por razones de salud. La última vez que se produjo una renuncia al trono papal fue en 1415.
