Los defensores de la privacidad en la Red y los activistas que se sienten hostigados por la censura de las autoridades tendrán una nueva plataforma para la libre expresión cuando Google lance sus nuevos servicios.
Diseñado por su centro Google Ideas, el servicio uProxy, anunciado este lunes, permitirá a los usuarios establecer una conexión cifrada con alguien de confianza. Google, conocido por su lema ‘Don’t be evil’ (‘no seas malo’), espera que la nueva tecnología permita burlar a los funcionarios gubernamentales.
Igual que Tor, uProxy permite a ciudadanos de ciertos países evadir los softwares de censura o vigilancia de sus Gobiernos al navegar por la Red. El servicio, que actualmente está en modo de prueba, no es una red de anonimato como Tor, pero hará que una conexión individual sea indistinguible de las demás conversaciones cifradas en línea. Ese anonimato puede ser valioso, teniendo en cuenta los intentos de agencias como la NSA para romper la seguridad de Tor.

Además, en el marco de otro servicio, llamado ‘Project Shield’ (‘proyecto escudo’), Google planea introducir un servicio que acogerá y protegerá las páginas de medios de comunicación y de organizaciones de defensa de los derechos humanos de los frecuentes ataques DDoS con motivaciones políticas. Además del servicio del Project Shield, la compañía anunció un mapa interactivo que permite seguir en tiempo real el origen geográfico de los ataques DDoS.
