Obama, citado por ‘The Wall Street Journal’, aseguró que se alcanzó “un buen pacto que satisface los objetivos centrales” y añadió que los detalles del documento serán finalizados en junio.
El acuerdo de la comunidad internacional con Irán hará el mundo más seguro, igual como sucedió después de que se concertaran los compromisos entre EE.UU. y la URSS en los años de la Guerra Fría, dijo Obama.
“Aquellos acuerdos no eran ideales, no suprimieron la amenaza, pero hicieron nuestro mundo más seguro —agregó—. Un buen acuerdo con Irán llevará al mismo resultado”.
Al mismo tiempo el presidente dijo que “nuestro trabajo aún no está hecho, el acuerdo no se ha firmado”. Obama advirtió que “si Irán viola el acuerdo EE.UU. puede volver a aplicar las sanciones”.
Pero lo que más le preocupa, confesó, es el posible acecho por parte de los congresistas de su propio país. Si el Congreso “mata” el pacto sin ofrecer ninguna alternativa razonable, al país norteamericano “le echarán la culpa del fracaso de la diplomacia”.
Para persuadir a los legisladores de la gran importancia que tiene el compromiso alcanzado, el mandatario agregó: “No es un simple pacto entre mi Administración e Irán; es un pacto entre Irán, Estados Unidos y las mayores potencias mundiales”.
Obama agregó que próximamente planea discutir el acuerdo por teléfono con el primer ministro israelí, Benjamín Netanyahu.
